Teaching loose lead waking means reminding your dog that being by your side is the best place in the world, even when you’re out and about.

• Start by feeding your dog a few treats by your side
• Slowly take a step forwards and wait for your dog to move towards you
• As soon as your dog moves in your direction reward them with a treat
• Take another step forward and repeat
• You can take steps to the side, forwards and backwards and give your dog a treat for moving with you
• Start to take a few steps forward before giving a treat, then increase to a few more and so on until you’re walking along with your dog by your side

Remember to start small and work your way up! Your dog will learn best in an environment with no distractions like your backyard. But, with practice, they will be able to master street walks in no time!
