Barking and Boredom Busters

Posted 12 Apr 2017

In the past years we have seen an increase of dog related companies/products/ businesses to better help your doggy friend and enrich their lives in some way. However we are still seeing an increase in barking complaints and dogs escaping on a daily basis. If your dog falls into these categories we are holding an information night Thursday 13th April to discuss the various ways to keep your dog safe.

It is common knowledge that these nuisance behaviours stem from boredom. Leaving our pets in the back yard with nothing to do whilst the humans and family are at work. If you think about it, it is similar to a human sitting in the same room day in day out with nothing to occupy themselves with - not even a smart phone. Imagine how long it would be before you went crazy with boredom! That is what some dogs deal with daily!

We must remember that mental stimulation is just as important (if not more) than physical stimulation. Even if you do not have the time to walk your dog daily there is no reason you can have them working their brain. But how? It is easy!

Before we domesticated dogs, they spent the majority of their day hunting and gathering, then us humans came along with magical silver bowls that contained their daily intake of food. By providing our dogs food in a bowl we are wasting a valuable resource that could be better utilised to recreate those hunting and foraging behaviours that stimulates them physically and mentally. Enrichment toys can not only drag out how long it takes for your dog to eat but also forces them to use problem solving behaviours that is rather exhausting for dogs!

By simply learning how to enrich your dogs life through enrichment and training you can change your dogs life and decrease your stress levels. You will have a happier, healthier, smarter dog that will gladly snooze the day away after they have worked hard hunting their breakfast. You will exterminate those pesky behaviours that cause us humans stress and improve the quality of your dogs life!
